"I was home schooled by my mother, a former teacher, along with my six siblings. I graduated high school in 2002 and graduated from the International ALERT (Air Land Emergency Resource) Academy in the spring of 2004 where I had the opportunity to serve in the recovery of a number of local and national disasters. I received the Disaster Relief Award twice for participating in two tornado relief deployments, a community service award for working for Big Sandy (Texas) to gut an old building to prepare it for restoration, the Public Service Award for helping in the building of a footbridge for the city of McDonough, Ga., and the National Service Award for serving in the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery deployment. My father was diagnosed with brain cancer in the mid 1990s when I was about 12, the effects of which resulted in his early retirement from a successful dental practice."
